Project Bread
Beginning this month, July 2023, SNAP recipients will go back to receiving their usual monthly benefit amount, and will no longer be receiving the temporary extra COVID SNAP benefit allotment that all households got during the pandemic. Now that these temporary extra benefits have ended, we wanted to remind you of the following resources to make the most of your benefits and find additional support.
SNAP benefits are based on your household’s income and other living expenses. Tell DTA about medical costs, adult or childcare costs, if you pay child support to a child outside of your SNAP household, or housing costs that could help increase your normal monthly SNAP benefits.
Did you know you can use your SNAP benefits at local farmer’s markets or farm stands? The Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) puts money back on your EBT card when you use it to pay for healthy, local produce from participating farm vendors. Once the money has been returned to your EBT card, you can spend it at any SNAP retailer as you normally would.
If you live in Massachusetts and get SNAP benefits, your household is automatically enrolled in the program. Your monthly HIP cap is based on the number of people in your household:
1-2 people → $40
3-5 people → $60
6+ people → $80
Ready to shop? Visit DTAFinder.com to find HIP vendors near you.
The Summer Eats program offers free, tasty meals to all kids and teens, 18 and under, during summer break. There are hundreds of meal sites across Massachusetts, and no ID or registration is required to enjoy some free food and fun with us.
Project Bread’s meal finder map makes it easy to find a site close by, so you and your family can skip right to the fun.
There is no application for Summer P-EBT. Families of eligible K-12 students will receive a one-time payment of $120 per child added to their existing card on July 25th, 2023.
All K-12 students in Massachusetts who attended a school that provides free meals to all students, or were approved individually by their school for free or reduced-price meals, are eligible for Summer P-EBT.
If you're finding it hard to keep up with the rising cost of living in Massachusetts, you're not alone. Call our FoodSource Hotline to find out if you're eligible for SNAP, and what other food resources are available for your household. Visit gettingsnap.org to get started, or give us a call:
As a SNAP Outreach Partner of DTA, Project Bread's role is to make it easier for people in Massachusetts to get SNAP and help anyone having trouble applying.
